James Lind Alliance

The James Lind Alliance (JLA) is a non-profit making initiative which was established in 2004. It brings patients, carers and clinicians together in Priority Setting Partnerships (PSPs) to identify and prioritise the Top 10 uncertainties, or 'unanswered questions', about the effects of treatments that they agree are most important. The aim of this is to help ensure that those who fund health research are aware of what matters to both patients and clinicians.

My Clinical Outcomes

This website allows collection of clinically validated outcome assessments for musculoskeletal conditions over the internet. It is accessible to those working within the NHS as part of a commissioned service, and has been developed by an orthopaedic surgeon keen to follow up patient progress over time.

Following appropriate registrations, a patients scores will be visible to their surgeon and their GP, and the patient will be prompted to complete further scores at predetermined time intervals.

It is now being used in Cornwall by the Clinical Commissioners to ensure quality of care and improve the patient pathway.

National Joint Registry

The NJR is designed to record details of hip and knee operations in England and Wales.Both the NHS and the independent health care sector are included and to be successful the NJR needs to gather information on as many of these operations as possible.

Norwich Image Interpretation Course

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital

The course is designed to outline:

  • normal anatomy and normal variants
  • common fractures, including their prevalence and mechanism of injury
  • subtle injuries that are often missed radiologically but which are clinically significant
  • soft tissue signs in the absence of obvious bony injury
  • fracture classification including common eponyms
  • risk factors, including potential pathological conditions, which may either predispose to the injury or be an incidental finding
  • other associated injuries following initial diagnosis
  • radiographic projections to aid the non-radiographer in diagnosis

Scottish Arthroplasty Project

The aim of the Scottish Arthroplasty Project (SAP) is to encourage continual improvement in the quality of care provided to joint replacement surgery ( arthroplasty) patients. This is currently achieved through the auditing of routinely collected SMRO1 national data in Scotland.
